Movie Review:Qayamat is an action-packed thriller starring a number of Bollywood actors including Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty, Sanjay Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, Isha Koppiker and debutante Neha Dhupia.

Inspired by the Hollywood flick 'The Rock', the film tells the story of a man who fights three dreaded terrorists who threaten to contaminate the Mumbai city's drinking water sources with virus-tipped missiles.

Ali [Arbaaz Khan] and Abbas [Sanjay Kapoor] along with their moll Laila [Isha Koppikar] are arms dealers, working hand-in-hand with the ISI. Together, they are able to get their hands on biological and chemical weapons. They have held 230 tourists hostage on an island that was formerly Elphinstone Jail. And now they plan a dangerous mission to blanket Mumbai with the virus and blackmail the Chief Minister for a hefty ransom of millions of Rupees and an assured escape route from India.

Comes into picture Akram Sheikh (Sunil Shetty), the patriotic chief of the Indian commandos. He knows one man who can help them. The man is Rachit (Ajay Devgan). Rachit himself had a criminal past. Today he is kept in solitary confinement and has degenerated almost into a vegetable - being often drugged by doctors because memories of his love Sapna [Neha Dhupia] make him violent.

Now the onus to beat the baddies and to neutralize the threat of biological and chemical war falls on Rachit's shoulders. Along with Akram and the rest of the commandos, he has to kill the bad guys and save Mumbai

Although a remake of Hollywood movie, Qayamat still brings some freshness into Bollywood with issues such as biological or chemical weapons, missiles, viruses and other sci-fi jargons.

The first half of the movie taps more on the romantic angle between Ajay Devgan and Neha Dhupia, while the second half is completely taken over by action.

Devgan excels in doing the death defying stunts and Sunil Shetty matches upto him in equal stead. However, newcomer Neha Dhupia is wasted in a role that does not require more than to sing and dance.

Qayamat is rich in terms of technique. The film has been stylishly shot and has an international feel to it, besides it moves at an exciting pace in the latter reels. The action sequences have also been integrated and woven well in the script.
